A unanimous vote of the membership at June 3 Annual Meeting approved

the start of a capital campaign for campus improvements.

Architect Wendell Burnette (Wendell Burnette Architects), hired by the congregation for consulting services, presented the results of the five-month data collection process, and recommendations for campus site improvements.  Members present agreed that the congregation’s growth and ability to meet our longer term goals is dependent on having more and improved worship, faith formation, and parking space.  The following motion was approved unanimously:

On behalf of the VUU Board of Trustees, I move that the Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation initiate a campaign for the purposes of raising capital for future physical campus improvements, and that a capital improvements committee (planning) and a capital campaign committee (fundraising) shall be formed from the membership of the congregation, who shall report to the Board no less frequently than quarterly.

A more immediate need was brought to light during the process, regarding the limited parking on our campus as presently designed.  The Facilities Team is working with the City of Chandler to have approved a temporary overflow parking area (abutting the north boundary of the campus, now dirt, between the main entrance and the garden area).  This area would be only slightly improved at this time (with curb cuts, gravel, and striping), to add 40-60 spaces needed for fall/spring Sunday mornings; ultimate parking improvements are planned to come later in the project timeline.

Next steps include the formation of a Capital Planning Committee (CPC) and a Capital Campaign Committee (CCC);  if you are interested in applying to be on either, please let us know by August 20, by clicking here.
