Editing Content

Each content (or node) type, has an special page to input or edit content and input specific infomation about that node.   Some input elements appear on all content types:

  •  Options
    • Published - if this box is not checked, only the content author can see this node.
    • In Moderation Queue - if this box is checked, the node will wait for approval by someone before it will become available to other users and visitors.
    • Promoted to first page - if this box is checked, the title, a short "teaser" summary, and a link to the entire node.
    • Sticky at top of lists - normally nodes that appear in lists are sorted most recent first.  This will override that sort order.
    • Create new revision - this is for content that is undergoing a series of changes where you might want to roll back to a previous version.  Only use this in special cases.
  • User Comments
    • Choose whether other users can post comments to this content node.  The comments will appear at the bottom.  Generally leave this off, unless you know that someone will read and respond to the comments that users submit.
  • Only Viewable By
    • Leave these checkboxes unchecked if you want anybody to see the content.  If you want to restrict viewing, check the roles who will be able to see it.
  • The Title will appear at the top of the content, and will appear as a link when the node is displayed in a list.
  • Path Alias will make the URL to the content more simple.  Use this if you want visitors or users to be able to type it.  Usually it's not necessary because the content will be findable by following links on the VUU site.
  • Scheduling allows the content to be published and/or unpublished at specific dates and times.

Edit the Body of the node by typing into the textarea.  The text in the edit box will look bigger than it will appear when viewed on the page.  By default, the edit block is in "Rich Text" mode, which means that it will appear pretty much how it will on the page.  You should be able to paste text in directly from Word and things like bold, italics and font size will come through.  The software will do its best to translate what you input into the actual HTML on the page.  It's not perfect, but it's pretty good. There are a bunch of buttons that you can use to put things like links and such in.  They look like the buttons in Word and pretty much work like you'd expect.

If you prefer to work with "raw" HTML, you can click on the "disable rich-text" and then there will be HTML tags in the body edit block.

If you change the Input Format setting, the behavior of the text area will change.  Experiment and find out which one works best for you, depending on your knowledge of HTML and rich-text editing.

On the bottom, you'll find a "Preview" button so you can see how it will look on the page, and "Submit" button to save the changes to the website.

When content such as pages and articles appear in a list, they are sorted using a natural order specific to that content type (typically by creation date, most recent first, or alphabetical) .  Setting the Weight will override
