What is Green Sanctuary (VUUGS)?
A Green Sanctuary is a congregation that lives out its commitment to the Earth by creating a sustainable lifestyle for its members as individuals and as a faith community.
Why is VUU involved?
The Green Sanctuary program is an organized way for us to focus and guide our VUU community in taking actions to live our 7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
Who is involved?
VUUGS members are your fellow members of VUU. All of our members wear a Green Sanctuary badge each Sunday.
What are our upcoming activities?
The next Highway Cleanup Will be November 30th 2013. We will gather at the Circle K on the corner of old Price and Queen Creek at 8:30 am. Those who want to carpool from VUU please sign up so we know how many are coming. The car pool will meet at 8:00 am at VUU. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes and a hat. The gloves, bags and safety vests are supplied. No children under 12 please.
Our next monthly VUUGS meeting: Sunday, December 1th 2013, at 12pm after the service in the Board room.
On Sunday, November 18 2012 we dedicated our Green Sanctuary Garden which has successfully completed two seasons. This short dedication was a complete success, thanks for all who participated!
Fall planting is complete, there is an ongoing need to weed, water and harvest. Please bring your tools, gloves and a good sun hat and any seeds you want to share!
Compost your coffee grounds and kitchen scraps. Compost is ‘cooking’ near the garden. Please bring used coffee grounds, kitchen scraps and shredded paper from home or the office. No oils, or meat. There are 3 bins now that you can add material too. Our future garden will appreciate the rich compost. Please turn the layers so dry ingredients are on the top. Thanks.
The garden team will meet on Sunday November 24th, at Noon in the conference room in the front of the office building. You can enter from the front door or the side door of the office building. If you would like to join the garden team please attend a meeting, or let Karen know that you'd like to participate in the future. The fall/winter garden is planted and needs attention!
Our last green themed service was a success on 15 April 2012, and we will be holding another in Feb of 2014, please stay tuned!
