What is Green Sanctuary (VUUGS)?
A Green Sanctuary is a congregation that lives out its commitment to the Earth by creating a sustainable lifestyle for its members as individuals and as a faith community.
Why is VUU involved?
The Green Sanctuary program is an organized way for us to focus and guide our VUU community in taking actions to live our 7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
Who is involved?
VUUGS members are your fellow members of VUU. All of our members wear a Green Sanctuary badge each Sunday.

Bring a wheelbarrow, rake and shovel if you have them. Snacks are provided. Wear sun protection and bring a water bottle. Older children are welcome with an adult.
Thanks for your support of this environmental justice project of our Green Sanctuary congregation!
The Green Sanctuary Garden is a large vegetable garden in the northwest corner of the VUU property.
VUU Seed Exchange, Sunday, 8/30/15- Please save and bring in old prescription pill containers for our seed exchange. You can put them on the Green sanctuary table. Then on 8/30, bring your favorite saved seeds to share with others. Over the last 3 months the garden contributed 500 pounds of food to the Tempe Community Action Agency (TCAA). We are looking for volunteers for the fall Garden, the next work day is 19 Sept 2015, first thing in the morning, mark your calendars!
Over 200 feet of garden rows and 4 large raised beds supply produce to charity and provide opportunity for VUU members and the community to learn to garden. Volunteers help choose what and when to plant, maintain the garden and participate in a community that has fun together while we harvest and learn. We encourage families and children to experience the wonder of growing healthy food! To volunteer please contact Karen S. at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Compost your coffee grounds and kitchen scraps.
Compost is ‘cooking’ near the garden. Please bring used coffee grounds, kitchen scraps and shredded paper from home or the office. No oils, or meat. There are 3 bins near the northwest corner of the parking lot. Please turn the layers so dry ingredients are on the top. Our garden benefits from the rich compost. It is the best ingredient we can add!
TBD will be the next Garden Team meeting- after the service If you would like to join the garden team please attend a meeting, or let Karen know that you’d like to participate in the future.
The green themed service was on 27 April 2014, the return of Rev. Michael Dowd, was exceptional!
