The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) encourages us to be “bolder” with our LGBTQ+ welcoming. They state “Transgender Unitarians are still struggling to find community in UU congregations. Bisexual UUs suffer from invisibility while asexual and intersex … communities are wrestling with a progressive faith that does not privilege their truth. These and many more social ills that plague our LGBTQ+… communities are calling us into a deeper commitment to ensure that our Unitarian Universalist congregations are living into the welcome that we boldly proclaim”.
Spectrum was formed at Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation to lean into that welcome, to discover new ways in which we can invite, support, and educate LGBTQ+ friends, members, children, and youth. Spectrum was meeting regularly before the pandemic, and we have both visitors and members interested in convening a discussion group for LGBTQ+ and allies.
If you are interested in being part of a Spectrum Connection Circle (a small group, meeting 2x/month, for 60-90 minutes, safely on zoom for now, and later in person), please indicate here. If you are already part of a Connection Circle, you can move to this one or participate in both. It never hurts to make new friends while keeping up with the existing ones!
