The Spirit of Life Reading Circle meets the first Thursday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 PM either on zoom or in Rooms 1 and 2 in the RE Building, with a break for the summer. We are beginning our eighth year and delight in our discussions of theological topics broadly defined.
Each month we send out links to two to four articles on a theme, like “Forgiveness,” “Churches in Action,” “Is Church Redundant,” or “Do We Really Believe in the First Principle for EVERYONE.” In other words, our topics are all over the map and very diverse, like the people who show up for our discussions. Mary Rothschild, Rebecca Riggs and Anne Schneider are our organizers and they range the gambit of theological persuasions from Christian Universalist to Agnostic to Atheist and they reflect the diversity of our group, as well.
Each month, we begin with a chalice lighting, a brief personal check-in and then jump into our discussion based on our readings and our personal interpretations of them. For eight years, our discussions have been lively, compelling and fun. Our group is open to all and newcomers are most certainly welcome.
Covid 19 made us give up meeting in person and going onto zoom, but, if anything, it has
enhanced our discussions. We’ve decided as a group for this year to continue meeting primarily on zoom, but, if Covid allows, meeting in person every three months or so with treats to eat as well as the genuine treat of seeing each other as whole people and not simply heads attached to shoulders on a screen.
